Foot Lock From Single Leg X Guard

  1. Overhook opponent’s ankle
  2. Twist towards opponen to throw him off balace
  3. As they step to regain balance, twist away from them to sweep them
  4. Grab the fist/wrist of hand that is overhooking
  5. Get upper foot on hip
  6. Finish by bringing your upper body up and having your arms stick to your chest

Foot Lock From Opponent’s Open Guard

  1. Overhook opponent’s foot
  2. Using the same side foot that you used to hook, place on opponent’s hip
  3. Fall to side of your hook
  4. Foot that was on hip/side should be on the ground so put your other foot up on opponent’s hip
  5. Finish by bringing your upper body up and having your arms stick to your chest

Foot lock defense

  1. Extend your trapped leg and point your toes towards your shins
  2. Push down on opponent’s knee on the ground
  3. Push up on knee on top of yours
  4. Move your self across opponent’s bottom foot
  5. Turn your heel to opponent’s ribs and pull free

Alternative: If you can’t pull free

  1. Move to the side more and step forward (front foot would be the foot that opponent has on a foot lock) so opponent is on back and your are in half guard, side control or knee on belly or something

Foot lock counter defence, Belly down foot lock (starts after step 4)

  1. If opponent doesn’t have a solid grip on your upper knee, use that knee to follow opponent and bring it to the ground
  2. Try and clear your foot across the opponent’s leg so they can’t defend (usually you end up with a knee on one side and foot on the other)
  3. Square up legs to wall off opponent
  4. Finish by bringing up and twisting, if you have a gi you can hold your own lapel

Foot lock Belly down Defense

  1. Use hand to cup and lift/pull opponent’s knee
  2. Arm should be used as a wall so opponent can not follow you
  3. Do a technical standup type of motion to go to the side and try and free your leg from opponent’s knee (opponent’s foot shouldn’t have cleared your entire leg/be on the same side as their knee)
  4. With your free leg, hook opponent’s leg (the one that you are holding with your hand)
  5. Push opponent’s knee away from you with your hard
  6. Use your hook and shin to push opponent’s leg away from you
  7. You can take back if opponent does no adjust
  8. If opponent can adjust in time they can go back to the original footlock position
