Half Guard to Side Control Line

  1. You are in half guard and on your side
  2. Use your outer leg to snake out sleightly to make space and insert your knee in that created by opponent’s hip and your body
  3. Establish a knee shield
  4. Connect your elbow to the inside of your knee doing the knee shield
  5. Bring knee down which will create space for your elbow to be and underhook opponent’s body
  6. Snake out sleightly and get a butterfly hook on the inside of their leg (for butterfly sweep))
  7. Switch hooks, using the leg that isn’t butterfly hooking and step over and bringing it back towards your butt trapping the leg you were butterfly hooking
  8. Drive forward and get oppnent’s weight off their knee and scissor your legs so non hooking knee is in the back
  9. Get a knee pick and drive forwards

Alternative: Opponent posts on foot you want to knee pick

  1. Grab that thigh, you’ll likely need to get your shoulder to the ground to reach it
  2. Forward snake such that you are flat under opponent, your pelvis will be under opponent’s knee and they won’t be touching the ground with maybe a hand or two
  3. Bridge and twist sleightly to roll them over and establish side control
