Cross Grip Armbar:

  1. Cross grip opponent’s lapel and cuff, cuff grip should be pulled very far back as if you were pulling back your fist for a punch
  2. Get opponent’s arm past your hips
  3. Shoot up and establish high guard (foot along opponent’s back should be the one that is over shoulder you moved past your hips)
  4. If your high guard is tight enough, you can pull down on the arm your trapped and bridge to armbar them there

Alternative: Should lock type of arm submission

  1. Turn yourself to the side slightly
  2. with one hand pulling trapped arm towards your hips, and one hand pushing trapped arm towards your hips bridge

Alternative: Reverse Armbar

  1. If the non trapped arm is available, wrap your arm around it (elbow to elbow) and trap it against your head as if you’re answering a telephone
  2. Apply Pressure to your elbow

Alternative: Normal Armbar

  1. Using the lapel as a frame, push their face away and swing your leg around for the armbar

Cross Grip Sweep mirrored scissor sweep:

  1. Cross grip opponent’s lapel and cuff
  2. Hip out and place your shin (side of the cuff you are grabbing) across opponent’s waist
  3. Let go of lapel and grab low on opponent’s back or belt
  4. Load opponent onto the shin and raise oppponent in the air
  5. Hip bump them away from you (hip bump isn’t super necissary but it makes dumping them easier)

Cross Grip Back Take:

  1. Cross grip opponent’s lapel and cuff
  2. Hip out and place your shin (side of the cuff you are grabbing) across opponent’s waist
  3. Push out opponent’s base with your other foot pushing on their knee
  4. Go to the side and take their back with your favorite turtle backtake technique
